In 1999 a Regional Contact Point for the 5th EU Framework Programme for Research, Technological Development and Demonstration activities. At present the Contact Point is a part of the network established by State Committee for Scientific Research (now the Ministry of Science and Higher Education) and the National Contact Point for EU Research Programmes at the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research in Warsaw. The network consists of regional, local and branch contact points. 

Regional Contact Point (RCP) provides all forms of information and organizational activities in order to help groups of researchers from Silesia to successfully take part in EU programmes.

The realization of projects financed from foreign resources at the Silesian University of Technology is regulated by the Rector?s ordinances which are available at the International Relations Office. These ordinances specify:

• Procedures of submitting applications to the successive EU Framework Programmes and obtaining power of attorney to take legal actions in this field on behalf of The Silesian University of Technology (ordinance no. 57/02/03)

• Course of action regarding participation in EU programmes and initiatives, structural funds as well as projects financed from foreign and international foundations and obtaining power of attorney to take legal actions in this field on behalf of The Silesian University of Technology (ordinance no. 52/03/04 ).

Aims and rules of operating of the RCP at the Silesian University of Technology:

• Promotion and dissemination of information concerning the 6th FP, possibilities of co-financing projects from Structural Funds, development and popularization of databases on research potential in Silesia



• Organisation of trainings the 6th FP and Structural Funds



• Counselling and assistance for potential participants of the 6th FP and Structural Funds projects in finding project partners



• Popularization of training and promotional materials - library
